Barcode: October 7 Google Doodle
Written under: Human Interest, Internet, Pop CultureToday, the barcode is Google’s logo. This Google doodle commemorates the issuance of the patent for the barcode, which happened October 7, 1952 with US Patent 2,612,994.
The barcode patent belongs to Norman Joseph Woodland, Bernard Silver and Jordin Johanson who worked on the idea after learning about a thesis by a 1932 business student named Wallace Flint regarding an automated grocery store.

A barcode is mainly an optical machine-readable representation of data. Originally, bar codes represented data in the widths (lines) and the spacings of parallel lines, and may be referred to as linear barcodes or symbologies.
However, other patterns such as squares, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns within images, often termed as 2D matrix codes are also referred to as barcodes as well.
