Catholic Bishop Says Confirmation First Before First Communion
Written under: Human Interest, Lifestyle
During his latest lecture, Bishop Samuel Aquila of Fargo, N.D. explains that the sacrament of confirmation should first be received before the first Eucharist.
He says, “One can speak of the many effects of confirmation and the impact it makes upon one’s life, but it is always important to remember that the divine Person of the Holy Spirit is received in confirmation.”
The lecture was given last July 6 at the Liturgical Institute at Mundelein Seminary in Illinois. More than the custom confirmation gifts, he emphasizes that a child needs “the gifts of the Holy Spirit every day, every hour, every minute and every second to live a life that gives glory to the Father as Jesus glorified the Father.”
