Chile Earthquake Moves Earth Axis
Written under: Human Interest, Science
The recent earthquake in Chile has caused the planet to move faster through its axis by 1.26 millionths of a second. This is according to preliminary calculations by scientists in NASA or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
However, there’s no cause for alarm for this because according to David Kerridge, the head of the British Geological Survey, this phenomenon has “no particular consequence on anything.”
The 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday is recorded as one of the largest in a century. It was caused by the ocean tectonic plate sliding under the South American plate.
