Written under: Human Interest, Lifestyle

A teen named Fathima Rifqa Bary turned to pastors Blake and Beverly Lorenz of Global Revolution Church in Orlando, Florida for protection from her Muslim parents who are allegedly angry for her conversion to Christianity.

She met the Global Revolution Church pastors through Facebook.

Fathima Rifqa Bary is 17 and is an honor student and cheerleader. She was raised in a Muslim family in Columbus, Ohio. However, she became a Christian four years ago as a result of her interactions with children at school.

Bary originally comes from Sri Lanka, last July 19, she hitchhiked at a bus station and ran away from home because she says that her family will murder her in what is known as an honor killing.

In Islamic tradition, an honor killing is the customary slaughter of a person who is believed to have brought dishonor upon his or her family.

Here’s a video news report on this story:

Currently, Rifqa Bary is in foster care by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

  1. Ghulam Muhammed says:

The young girl is apparently under heavy brainwashed condition and giving out the dread of ‘honour killing’ which is unknown in Sri Lanka, from where the family originated.

  2. Lamamelk says:

Brainwashed are those muslims that would kill their own child for the sake of their “honor” and merciless religion.

Sri Lanka has few instances of honor killings because it is a mostly Buddhist country with Muslims barely comprising 7% of the population. In majority Muslims countries honor killings are widespread and now that Muslim immigration to the US is increasing we are starting to see several cases of honor killings here.

  3. nama says:

it is ok that she went to another religion but she should appreciate her parents for bringing her to america from sri lanka. i think she was brainwashed by the pastor she met on facebook. i also think all the stuff she said on the news was not true and someone was telling her what to say and do. first comes the appreciation of your parents.

Good for her for standing up for herself. I hope the law doesn’t disappoint her and she gets the protection she needs. I know many men who physically and mentally abuse their wives/kids. Maybe her mom needs to be protected as well.

  5. Wake Up says:

Neither of these religions is any better than the other. All religious people are brainwashed. Her only hope at a happy life is to stay away from religion completely.

  6. Metin says:

There is nothing in Islam as “honor killing”, and if you kill some one for that reason, that would be a murder. Why does the website say it is customary in Islam?

  7. me says:

Another shining example of the muslim “religion”.

  8. martin says:

No such thing as honor killing in Islam? No not as such. However in the Quran, Hadetith, Sunna, and the Sharia legal system she is to be killed as an apostate. So no not honor killing. Just a legal stoning handed down by some Clerical Counsel somewhere.

  9. Jeff H says:

I have only one question for the pastor and his group:
If this young girl later decided that your particular brand of Christianity was not in line with her spiritual beliefs and values, and she announced that she wished to leave your church, would you continue to support and defend her?
How far are you willing to commit yourself to her well being?
Does your commitment go beyond your devotion to your church?
Does it go all the way toward the common acceptance of this human being’s innate right to choose her own spiritual salvation and her own religious views or even God forbid, the casting off of any religious views whatsoever?

  10. Mark says:

If the parents were very religious and from Saudi Arabia, Afganistan or even Egypt.. the story would be a lot more plausable. In this case however the father let his daughter be a cheerleader and didn’t come from an area where honor killing were a part of the culture. I suspect the girl knew her Dad would be angry and the Pastor convinced her that in order to be good Muslims they would have to kill her.

  11. Daniel says:

“nama” is correct. I don’t doubt for a moment that this girl was brainwashed by online “frieds” and by the other overzealous “christians” with whom she choses to associate.

However, “Wake Up” is MORE correct! Religions and the idea of god itself are both creations of man which are obsolete.

I read a longer article about the case where she accused her parents of repeatedly dragging her to a Muslim temple and forcing her to go, yetthe temples attendance records show that she’d only been there a few times. As well, the people pressing her issue claimed that the FBI is investigating the same temple for terrorist connections. The FBI says that’s false as well. So a naive girl is filled with crap from an online nutcase. That shouldn’t be a surprise.

As a human being, I feel sorry for her family and for their temple.

As an atheist, I wish they and the human race would wake up from this superstition slumber.

    Know god; no peace
    No god; know peace!

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
this ARTICLE made a MISTAKE!!! please FIX it!!!
to kill is a sin, “honor killing” is a sin in islam! that is a middle eastern culture tradition! For the sake of the other muslims in the world, please change “islamic” tradition to “cultural” tradition. That’s EXTREMELY RUDE to call millions of people murderers!!!!!!!!!!!
