As the world of Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons come to the big screen and reach the general public, many are now being acquainted with the secret society that is the Illuminati.

While the Priory of Scion kept us intrigued in The Da Vinci Code, then so has The Illuminati in Angels & Demons. And now, many are asking, is the Illuminati real?

Illuminati means “enlightened” in Latin. In reality, it can refer to several groups for many have used the name to call themselves. In terms of the movie Angels and Demons, it specifically pertains to Bavarian Illuminati.

Bavarian Illuminati is an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776. In recent years, they are seen as a conspiratorial organization that tries to establish a New World Order. But no evidence of this has been presented.

The original Bavarian Illuminati was founded on May 1, 1776, in Ingolstadt by Adam Weishaupt. It was made up of freethinkers who often comment on issues about politics and society. Thus the origination of their reputation.
