Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016 Announcement
Written under: Human Interest, SportsThe bid for the 2016 summer Olympics is over. In an announcement, the IOC has awarded Rio De Janeiro, Brazil the opportunity to host the 2016 Olympiad.
Right after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016 announcement, big celebrations immediately began all over the streets of Brazil, specially in the city.

There were four city finalists, Chicago, USA; Tokyo, Japan; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Madrid, Spain.
Chicago was the first to get eliminated, followed by Tokyo. In the last round, Rio de Janeiro emerged as the winner, edging Madrid with more than 40 votes.
Rio de Janeiro is now the first South American city to host the Olympics.
2016 Olympics Voting Tally and Results:
First round: Madrid, 28; Rio de Janeiro, 26; Tokyo, 22; Chicago 18
Second round: Rio de Janeiro, 46; Madrid, 29; Tokyo, 20
Third round: Rio de Janeiro, 66; Madrid 32
Note that the totals vary as representatives of eliminated countries are allowed to cast ballots in the next round.
