Vera and Munoz: Two Filipino-Americans Fight In UFC 102

As the world of MMA prepares to watch UFC 102 on August 29. There is particular interest for UFC fans in the Philippines as they will witness two Filipino-Americans in the upcoming mixed martial art event.
UFC 102 will feature Brandon Vera and Mark Munoz. Both fighters of Filipino lineage are up against Krzysztof Soszynski and Nick Catone respectively.
Mark Munoz was born on February 9, 1978 in a US Military Base in Yokouska, Japan. His parents are both Filipino – Imelda Kenery of Santa Ana, Manila and Rodolfo Munoz of Pasay City. At the age of 2, Mark and his family relocated to the US and settled in the city of Vallejo, California.
Mark Munoz made his UFC debut during UFC 96 where he faced Matt Hamill last March 7, 2009. He lost by a Round 1 KO with a head kick. UFC 102 is his second showing in the UFC arena.
Meanwhile, Brandon Vera is the son of a Filipino father, Ernesto, and an Italian-American mother, Amelia. He grew up in a family with seven boys and three girls. He was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia.
Brandon Vera made his UFC debut on February 4, 2006 during UFC 57 where he won against Justin Eilers via a kick and knee Round 1 KO. UFC 102 is his 9th UFC event. Shown above is his fight with Frank Mir during UFC 65 where he won via TKO.
