World Tamil Conference 2010 Begins

The World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 (Tamil: உலகத் தமிழ்ச் செம்மொழி மாநாடு), officially the 9th World Tamil Conference and informally known as the World Tamil Meet has begun June 23 and will continue until June 27, 2010.
This conference is an international meet by Tamil scholars, researchers, poets, and celebrities from all around the world. It is currently happening in Coimbatore.
The conference was inaugarated by the president of India, Pratibha Patil. Finnish Tamil scholar Asko Parpola will be awarded Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Classical Tamil award.
Tamil scholar V. Sivathambi from Sri Lanka, UNESCO Director Arumugam Parasuraman, MP and political leader Sitaram Yechury of Communist Party of India (Marxist), D. Raja of Communist Party of India, and Pattali Makkal Katchi founder.
Ramadoss are also expected to participate in the ceremony. Dignitaries and Tamil scholars will be gifted with an exquisitely engraved Thanjavur’ plate.
The theme song, “Semmozhiyaana Thamizh Mozhiyaam” was penned by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi with music by A.R. Rahman.
