Believe it or not, your roof is responsible for more than 25 percent of your home’s energy loss every month. Though the roofing materials you have in place play a small role in that energy loss, they’re not the main contributing factor. Instead, all comes down to your attic insulation.

Proper attic insulation levels can make all the difference in your home. Unfortunately, many houses have inadequate levels of insulation throughout their attics and crawlspaces. Those low insulation levels have a huge impact on the comfort of your house.

Making sure you have the right amount of insulation in place is one of the best things you can do. Here are a few key benefits you’ll experience once you insulate your attic the right way.

    1. Keeps Your Energy Bills Low

You rely on your HVAC system to keep your home comfortable throughout the year. Unfortunately, even the most energy-efficient system needs tons of electricity to keep your space at your preferred temperature.

When the attic doesn’t have enough insulation in place, all that climate-controlled air dissipates through the roof. That means your system has to work harder just to keep up with your thermostat’s setting.

By adding attic and loft insulation or replacing damaged insulation quickly, you’ll keep that climate-controlled air from escaping through the roof. This makes it easier for your system to heat or cool your home without causing your energy bills to skyrocket every month.

    2. Makes Your Home More Comfortable

Drafts have a way of making your home uncomfortable no matter how well you maintain your HVAC system. During the winter, the drafts make your house colder than it should be and, during the summer, even small leaks can make your home unbearably hot.

If you don’t have enough attic insulation in place, those drafts can start to impact the rest of your house quickly.

By making sure you have proper attic insulation in place, you’ll be able to keep your home comfortable more easily. Those drafts won’t make it past the upper levels of your home. Instead, they’ll get absorbed by the insulation itself, leaving the rest of your house cool in summer and warm in winter.

    3. Cuts Down on Mold Growth

Drafts and changing temperatures aren’t the only things that impact the comfort of your house. Believe it or not, the space can get incredibly humid when you don’t have enough insulation in place.

That humidity combined with warmer temperatures creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew growth. While it might not seem like a huge deal, that mold and mildew can spread quickly. Once it gets into the rest of your home, you’ll have to hire an experienced mold remediation specialist to get rid of it for good.

When you’re taking the steps to learn how to improve insulation in your attic, you’re also making it harder for mold to grow in the first place. The attic won’t get as hot and humid, making it harder for the fungus to take root. Over time, this will keep your loved ones safer and preserves your home’s value for years to come.

    4. Extends the Life of Your HVAC System

The harder your HVAC system has to work, the more wear and tear it will experience over the years. If your attic or loft space doesn’t have enough insulation in place, you can count on your heat and air conditioning system to work overtime just to keep you comfortable.

Unfortunately, this often increases the amount of money you’ll spend on routine maintenance and dramatically shortens the lifespan of your HVAC system.

Take a look at your insulation and think about how often your HVAC system turns on. Once you replace the insulation or add extra insulation to your attic, your HVAC system will start turning on less often. This means it will need fewer repairs and can last for years longer than it otherwise would.

    5. Reduces Outside Noise Contamination

Attic insulation doesn’t just keep your home comfortable. It also keeps noises from outside the house from seeping into your home.

When the insulation in your attic or loft space gets damaged or there isn’t enough in place, you’ll hear more noise from outside. Anytime a loud car drives by or the neighborhood kids play on the street, you’ll hear them almost as if they were inside your living room. That noise contamination can make your house less of a paradise and more of an annoyance.

Proper insulation levels ensure that your home stays quiet even when there’s tons of activity outdoors. This means you’ll be more comfortable and will be able to hear only the things you want to hear both day and night.

    6. Lowers Your Carbon Footprint

If making your home as eco-friendly as possible is a priority, making sure your attic insulation is up to par is an absolute must. Remember, your insulation helps keep your energy bills as low as possible.

The less energy you use, the less you contribute to the pollution caused by many electric plants. With more insulation in place, your home will use less electricity every day. That means your house will be as environmentally friendly as it can be.

See the Benefits of Proper Attic Insulation for Yourself

Having proper attic insulation in place can make all the difference in your home’s comfort and energy efficiency. If you can, take a look at your attic space and see if there are any missing pieces of insulation or visible signs of damage.

If you notice anything out of place, call your contractor as soon as you can. The sooner you get the right amount of insulation in place, the sooner you’ll be able to experience these benefits for yourself.

Improving your home’s insulation is just one way to make your house more comfortable without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for more inspiration to help you find ways to improve your home, don’t wait. Check out our latest posts for additional tips and tricks.
